Task 2: "How Effective Is The Combination of Your Main Product and The Ancillary Tasks?"

Task Two Video:

Task 3 - What Have You Learnt From Your Audience Feedback?

In relation to Stuart Hall:

Task 4 - How Did You Use New Media Technologies In The Construction and Research, Planning and Evaluation Stages?

Timings

0:00 – 0:16: The Internet was used in order to gather archive footage of London, that we received approval to use.

0:17 – 0:32: We tried to use film footage of the rooftop scene over JAMES’  flat then realised that the film footage was too grainy so I had to use photographs instead.

0:33 - 0:37 - We used Song Camera FS100 to shoot the footage of Leah.

0:38 - 0:44 - to capture the feather falling in slow motion we changed the software on the same camera.

0:45 - 0:59 - To make sure we captured the right shots on the day the Playback TV Screen. This was used to make sure the that functions and meanings of the video, after each shot was taken on the day, were still being followed so that we could have a successful end product.

1:00 - 1:14 - using Final Cut Pro allowed us to edit professionally, and cut to the beat of the track. Meaning could be fully established through the editing process as we were able to cut shots together in order to create a narrative and storyline that fitted the forms and conventions of the final product.

1:15 - 1:28 - Using the Internet to gather information about the type of star image, to get props and design the set and look for inspiration. Meanings could be established through the props that were gathered and therefore used as part of the symbolic meaning of IVY’s star image.

1:29 – 1:41 - YouTube was used to find inspiration videos, such as Beautiful by Christina Aguilera. This allowed us to develop the form and narrative of our video by adapting previous media products ideologies to our own, in terms of set design.

1:42 – 1:54 - We used a Canon 550D to record Leah’s screen test. This aided us in contributing to form, function and meaning through the ability of having a successful actress for the leading role, selling the elements of the video fully.

1:55 – 2:11 - We used a Sony Camera FS100 to record professional looking footage. We wanted to have a professional looking product, therefore using professional cameras to aid us in selling IVY as a star. The video was filmed at 25fps to create a reminiscent look of a media product that would be made by an artist of a niche label.

2:12 – 2:23: In the postproduction stage After Effects allowed us to create a professional looking product, especially with the use of the green screen. This allowed us to place IVY in front of the iconic council flats of London, establishing part of her star image as British.

2:24 – END: YouTube allowed us to exhibit our finished product online and gather statistics about what kind of people were watching our video. It has also given us access to the target audience that IVY’s star image had focused on. This allows us to see the successful and unsuccessful functions of the video.

Webpage Drafts

Here are some screenshots of our Webpage design so far. Within it we have incorporated many features of IVY's star image that are present across all the media products that we have created. For example, the symbol of a feather.

Screentest

Here is a video that I took on my Canon 550D model and uploaded to YouTube of the first screentest that was completed with our artist IVY, being played by Leah Chapman.

Research Into Artist Websites

In order to create the most realistic web page for our created star IVY, we have to make her webpage, that is being designed on WIX.com as similar to already existing in this particular media genre. This means looking at Webpages for stars that have similar 'star image ideologies' to that of IVY.

SIA:

SIA is the original artist for the song we have chosen to create our music video on. Therefore, a lot of the material that my group and I on her page was very useful in terms of deciding how simplistic our layout should be. Her page also allowed us to gain a sense of what colours, text and formatting we might decide to use when establishing the qualities of IVY's star image. Below is a screenshot of her webpage.

Christina Aguilera:

Christina's webpage provided use with inspiration for the links off the homepage that we have begun to create. For example links for merchandise, tours and social networking sites have now been added to our page for IVY, in order to create a product that is similar to those that are already existent. We also took inspiration for the physical design of our page from Christina's.

The Weepies:

The simplicity of the design on The Weepies webpage is what we think is the best example to follow if we wish to create a website for IVY that follows the institutional values that we have given her. We created IVY so that she was signed to her own niche music label. This meant that the design of our website didn't have to look as though it had been made by professionals. The Weepies website is extremely simplistic and easy to navigate which, is why we have taken it as inspiration for our own.

Our Own Webpage... So Far:

The font styles inspiration came from the original SIA webpage, as when creating IVY's star image, we wanted to incorporate some of the original artist's key qualities. The menu palette across the top of our webpage came from Christina's page, as it allows our viewers to clearly see the choices of activity that they're able to find on IVY's page. Christina's page also provided us with ideas for what links, viewers would expect to find on an artists page. We also tried to incorporate the simplistic design of The Weepies page into the design of IVY's so that the webpage could look as though it is part of a personal label, rather than a larger institutional music label webpage.
