Task 4 - How Did You Use New Media Technologies In The Construction and Research, Planning and Evaluation Stages?

Timings

0:00 – 0:16: The Internet was used in order to gather archive footage of London, that we received approval to use.

0:17 – 0:32: We tried to use film footage of the rooftop scene over JAMES’  flat then realised that the film footage was too grainy so I had to use photographs instead.

0:33 - 0:37 - We used Song Camera FS100 to shoot the footage of Leah.

0:38 - 0:44 - to capture the feather falling in slow motion we changed the software on the same camera.

0:45 - 0:59 - To make sure we captured the right shots on the day the Playback TV Screen. This was used to make sure the that functions and meanings of the video, after each shot was taken on the day, were still being followed so that we could have a successful end product.

1:00 - 1:14 - using Final Cut Pro allowed us to edit professionally, and cut to the beat of the track. Meaning could be fully established through the editing process as we were able to cut shots together in order to create a narrative and storyline that fitted the forms and conventions of the final product.

1:15 - 1:28 - Using the Internet to gather information about the type of star image, to get props and design the set and look for inspiration. Meanings could be established through the props that were gathered and therefore used as part of the symbolic meaning of IVY’s star image.

1:29 – 1:41 - YouTube was used to find inspiration videos, such as Beautiful by Christina Aguilera. This allowed us to develop the form and narrative of our video by adapting previous media products ideologies to our own, in terms of set design.

1:42 – 1:54 - We used a Canon 550D to record Leah’s screen test. This aided us in contributing to form, function and meaning through the ability of having a successful actress for the leading role, selling the elements of the video fully.

1:55 – 2:11 - We used a Sony Camera FS100 to record professional looking footage. We wanted to have a professional looking product, therefore using professional cameras to aid us in selling IVY as a star. The video was filmed at 25fps to create a reminiscent look of a media product that would be made by an artist of a niche label.

2:12 – 2:23: In the postproduction stage After Effects allowed us to create a professional looking product, especially with the use of the green screen. This allowed us to place IVY in front of the iconic council flats of London, establishing part of her star image as British.

2:24 – END: YouTube allowed us to exhibit our finished product online and gather statistics about what kind of people were watching our video. It has also given us access to the target audience that IVY’s star image had focused on. This allows us to see the successful and unsuccessful functions of the video.
